Brass Quick Disconnects and Hose Fittings

This page carries two brass quick-connect systems that do not mate with each other, plus a brass live swivel and the Twisty Quick service gasket. The 740 series is Dramm's US-made pull-collar disconnect: pull the collar back and the halves separate, and the full-flow halves carry a clear bore with no water-stop poppet in the way. The Twisty Quick is a separate European system, forged in Germany, that couples with a quarter turn and is symmetrical, so every Twisty Quick claw mates with every other Twisty Quick claw regardless of what is on the back of it. That symmetry is the thing to understand before ordering: the barbed and threaded Twisty Quicks are alternatives to each other, not three parts of one assembly, and a 740 half will not connect to a Twisty Quick at all.

Choose the system first, then the end fitting. In the US-made 740 series, 740 Full Flow Pair is the male and female halves supplied together as 740C, 740 Male Full Flow is the male half on its own as 741C, 740 Female Full Flow is the clear-bore female half as 742C, and 740 Female WaterStop is 743C, the female half that seals the line when a tool is pulled off; Dramm's own note on the water-stop female is that flow is restricted somewhat as it passes through while connected, so it is a trade rather than a free upgrade over the full-flow female. In the Twisty Quick system the claw face is identical on every part and only the back end differs: 625 Twisty Quick (European, 5/8 in Barb) and 675 Twisty Quick (European, 3/4 in Barb) are hose barbs, ordered as 625C and 675C, for 5/8 in and 3/4 in ID blunt-cut hose held on with a hose clamp you supply, while 775 Twisty Quick (European, 3/4 in Male Hose Thread) and 775 Twisty Quick (European, 3/4 in Female Hose Thread), ordered as 775-MC and 775-FC, screw onto a tool, valve or hose coupling that is already threaded. Because those four share one claw, a barbed hose end joins straight to a threaded tool end with nothing in between, which is why they are alternatives to each other and not parts of a set. Twisty Quick Replacement Gasket (European) is 775-GC, the gasket that seats in that claw face on all four, so a coupling that has begun to weep can be reserviced instead of scrapped. Brass Hose Swivel - 3/4 in Hose Thread is not a disconnect at all: it is 10-72700, a live swivel that lets the tool rotate under pressure so the hose behind it stops winding up.

Specifications

Coupling action 740 series parts use a pull-back collar; the Twisty Quick parts use a 1/4 turn claw; the brass hose swivel is a live swivel and does not disconnect
Interchange Any Twisty Quick couples to any other Twisty Quick, barbed or threaded; the 740 series halves mate only with each other and not with a Twisty Quick
Origin 740C, 741C, 742C and 743C are made in the USA; 625C, 675C, 775-MC and 775-FC are forged brass made in Germany
Materials Brass bodies throughout; the 740 series uses synthetic rubber gaskets and a stainless steel spring in the male half, and the Twisty Quick claw seals on a rubber gasket
Thread and barb 3/4 in hose thread on both 740 halves, on 775-MC (male), on 775-FC (female) and on the brass hose swivel; 625C takes 5/8 in ID hose and 675C 3/4 in ID hose on a barb instead of a thread
Hose clamp Required on the barbed options 625C and 675C and not supplied; the threaded and pull-collar options do not need one
Water stop None on 740C, 741C, 742C or on any Twisty Quick; 743C is the water-stop female, where Dramm notes flow is restricted somewhat while connected
Unit weight 741C 1.5 oz; 742C 2.2 oz; 625C 3.9 oz; 675C 4.2 oz; 775-MC 3.0 oz; 775-FC 3.4 oz; brass hose swivel 6.0 oz; Dramm publishes the 740C pair at both 3.4 oz and 3.7 oz
Case pack 25 for the 740 series parts; 10 for every Twisty Quick part including the gasket; 12 for the brass hose swivel
Flow rating 18 gpm on the brass hose swivel; Dramm publishes no flow figure for the disconnects themselves

Key Features

  • Two independent coupling systems stocked together: the US-made 740 pull-collar disconnect and the German forged-brass quarter-turn Twisty Quick
  • Full-flow 740 halves have no water-stop poppet in the bore, so there is no spring or seat in the water path to fail or restrict
  • Every Twisty Quick claw mates with every other Twisty Quick claw, so barbed hose ends and threaded tool ends couple directly
  • A water-stop female is stocked in the 740 series for lines that should seal when a tool comes off
  • 3/4 in hose thread on both 740 halves, on both threaded Twisty Quicks and on the brass hose swivel
  • The Twisty Quick claw gasket is stocked as a service part, so a weeping coupling can be resealed rather than scrapped
  • The brass hose swivel is rated 18 gpm and lets a tool turn under pressure to keep the hose from twisting

Ideal Applications

  • Swapping water breakers, wands and shut-offs on a hand-watering hose without unscrewing threads each time
  • Making up custom-length hose runs from blunt-cut hose with barbed couplings and clamps
  • Fitting one coupling standard across both hose ends and tool ends so anything joins to anything
  • Sealing the hose end as a tool is pulled off, using the water-stop female
  • Taking the wind-up out of a hose behind a wand or spray gun
  • Reservicing existing Twisty Quick couplings with fresh gaskets at the start of a season

Dramm builds the brass shut-off valve with the raised handle specifically so it clears a brass Twisty Quick, and ColorStorm hose, the DrammPress hose crimper and Handi-Reach handles are the parts most often assembled on the other side of one of these couplings.
