Pest Out is a botanical broad-spectrum miticide and insecticide for control of mites, thrips, and aphids, built on 40 percent cottonseed oil, 20 percent clove oil, and 10 percent garlic oil. It is a FIFRA 25(b) exempt pesticide under Rule 40 CFR 152.25 and therefore carries no EPA registration. In independent replicated field and greenhouse trials it controlled mite populations for 3 to 4 weeks at a 1 percent spray solution.

Pest Out is applied as a foliar spray. Mix 1 gallon of concentrate per 100 gallons of spray water for a 1 percent solution, or 1.5 fl oz per gallon, 7 fl oz per 5 gallons, and 32 fl oz per 25 gallons of final mix. Apply enough to cover the entire surface of infested tissue; complete coverage is essential. Apply no more than once in a 7-day period and repeat as necessary.

Handling Note

Pest Out contains oil and may mark some fruit, especially pears. Test compatibility on a small number of plants before initial applications.

State Registration

Pest Out is a minimum-risk pesticide exempt from federal EPA registration under FIFRA Section 25(b). This federal exemption does not remove state requirements, and many states still require registration or notification before a 25(b) product may be sold there.
