Dramm - DrammPress Hose Crimper
Brand: Dramm
DrammPress Hose Crimper
A hardened steel bench press that swages Dramm's nickel plated brass fittings and ferrules onto ColorStorm hose, so a shop can cut hose to any length and put a factory-grade end on it in house. Dramm's claim is that it fits fittings and ferrules as securely as the equipment in their own shop, and because the ferrule does the clamping there are no ring bands or gear clamps involved. Bought by greenhouses, nurseries and grounds departments that go through hose and would rather make 135 ft assemblies than buy 100 ft ones.
The choice on this page is which jaw set ships with the frame. Frame only is the bare press and cannot crimp anything until a jaw set is fitted - buy it if you already own jaws or are adding a second station. The bundles are the same frame with one jaw set included, and jaw size matches the hose inside diameter, not the thread size of the fitting: the 5/8 in jaws are for 5/8 in ColorStorm and the 3/4 in jaws for 3/4 in ColorStorm. Jaws are interchangeable on one frame, so a shop running both hose sizes buys the frame once and adds the second jaw set rather than a second press. A 1/2 in jaw set is available on request rather than from shelf stock, so specify it on the order.
Specifications
| Frame | Hardened steel, mounts to a bench or table |
| Drive | Turned by the included allen wrench or by a cordless drill with the included bit; both tools ship with the frame, not with the jaws |
| Jaw sizes | 5/8 in jaws for 5/8 in ColorStorm hose; 3/4 in jaws for 3/4 in ColorStorm hose; both fit the same frame and are interchangeable. A 1/2 in set is available on request |
| Hose and fittings | Dramm ColorStorm hose with Dramm fittings and ferrules only |
| Fastening | The crimped ferrule does the work, so no ring bands or gear clamps are needed |
| Weight | Frame about 3.8 lb; 5/8 in jaw set about 11.2 oz; 3/4 in jaw set about 9.6 oz |
| Procedure | Eight published steps: cut the hose square, slide the ferrule on, push the barbed fitting through the ferrule into the hose, seat it against a flat surface, load it into the open jaws, align the ferrule end with the frame, close the jaws until they meet, then open fully and remove |

Key Features
- Crimps the same fittings and ferrules Dramm uses in the factory, so a re-ended hose finishes like a factory hose
- Ferrule crimp replaces ring bands and gear clamps at the hose end
- Runs off a cordless drill, or by hand with the supplied allen wrench when there is no power at the bench
- Jaws swap on one frame, so a single press covers both ColorStorm hose sizes
- Mounts permanently to a bench or table for repeatable alignment
- Turns bulk hose into whatever length the house actually needs instead of the length the roll came in
Ideal Applications
- Making ColorStorm hose in custom lengths in house
- Re-ending hose that has been cut, crushed or torn at the coupling
- Building in-line splices with Dramm splice and ferrule sets
- Running a hose repair station at a multi-house operation
- Rebuilding hose reels and drop stations to a bay-specific length
The consumables are Dramm's male and female fitting-and-ferrule 12-packs, the splice and ferrule sets, and ColorStorm hose bought by the foot or on 330 ft master rolls.
