General Hydroponics Rapid Rooter Plugs
Rapid Rooter plugs are a starting medium engineered for robust rooting, made from sphagnum peat moss and composted tree bark bound with plant-derived foam polymers. The proprietary process produces an all-natural, soil-free plug that is a natural alternative to synthetic media such as rockwool. The structure gives an optimal air-to-water balance that supports strong root development while helping prevent root rot and damping off. The plugs are biodegradable and support beneficial microbial activity.
Plugs are soaked in pH-balanced water at around pH 6.0 for roughly two hours and squeezed gently four to five times for uniform moisture without oversaturation. For seed starting, one or two seeds are placed in the pre-drilled hole and covered with torn plug material to keep the seed dark during germination; for propagation, a 2 to 4 in cutting is cut at a 45 degree angle, dipped in rooting gel and inserted into the pre-drilled hole. Keep the plugs moist by bottom-watering with about 1/4 in of standing water and use a humidity dome until roots emerge. Once roots are visible, the entire plug transplants directly into hydroponic systems, coco or soil, and no tedious pH balancing of the medium is required.
