Dramm - L-5 Extension Lance
Brand: Dramm
L-5 Extension Lance
The L-5 is Dramm's extension spray lance for their hydraulic and battery sprayers: a ring of five conical nozzles that throws a fine, turbulent spray perpendicular to the wand, on a shaft long enough to reach over a wide bench or up into a hanging basket. Dramm rates the lance at 0.5 gpm and 500 psi maximum, and the assembled adjustable lance telescopes from 28 in to 41 in. This page holds the whole L-5 family and it runs in three tiers: complete lances you can spray with, one adjustable bare shaft, and four fixed bare shafts. The bare shafts are what Dramm calls lance only, meaning the tube on its own with no nozzle ring, no valve and no handle, so read the option before you order.
There are two decisions on this page. The first is how much of the lance you are buying. L-5 Adjustable Lance is Dramm's original part number for the extension lance and stays available for buyers who order by it. L-5TQC Adjustable Lance with Trigger and Quick Connect is the current complete build, listed by Dramm as the L-5 extension lance with trigger and quick connect: five nozzle ring, a 1/4 turn valve for setting flow, a trigger for on and off, and a high-pressure stainless steel quick connect so it swaps with a trigger gun on the same hose. L-5E Lance and 5 Nozzle Ring Only is the ring and shaft together with no valve and no handle, which is how Dramm supplies it for the BP-4Li backpack, where the sprayer's own grip and valve are already in the operator's hand; Dramm gives its reach as extending to 30 inches. The other five options are bare shafts, for a crew that already has the ring, valve and handle and is replacing a bent tube or changing reach. The second decision applies only to those bare shafts and it is adjustable against fixed. Adjustable Lance Only - 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 in) telescopes, so one operator can set the reach row by row and one part covers the whole span, at the cost of a sliding wetted joint that has to be flushed with the rest of the lance and that can creep under load unless it is locked down. Fixed Lance Only - 60 cm (24 in), Fixed Lance Only - 75 cm (30 in), Fixed Lance Only - 90 cm (36 in) and Fixed Lance Only - 120 cm (48 in) are one length each, with nothing to slip and no extra joint to clean, and they are spaced closely enough to buy a working height rather than round up. If a crew always sprays the same bench or basket height, a fixed shaft is the more durable buy; if reach changes through the day or across houses, the adjustable shaft is the one part that covers it, and the 120 cm fixed length is the only bare shaft that reaches past the adjustable one.
Specifications
| Nozzles | Ring of 5 conical nozzles on the L-5, L-5TQC and L-5E builds, spraying perpendicular to the wand; the adjustable and fixed lance only options are the bare shaft with no ring |
| Flow rate | 0.5 gpm at 500 psi |
| Maximum pressure | 500 psi |
| Length | 28 in to 41 in on the assembled adjustable lance; L-5E extends to 30 in; the bare shafts are either 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 in) adjustable or fixed at 60 cm (24 in), 75 cm (30 in), 90 cm (36 in) or 120 cm (48 in) |
| Shaft type | Telescoping on the assembled adjustable builds and on the 60 to 90 cm bare shaft; a single set length on each of the four fixed bare shafts |
| Flow control | 1/4 turn valve on the complete builds, with a trigger for on and off on the L-5TQC build; L-5E has neither valve nor grip, and none of the five bare shaft options includes a valve, trigger or handle |
| Connection | High-pressure stainless steel quick connect on the L-5TQC build |
| Sprayer compatibility | Dramm names the MSO, Hydra and BP-4Li sprayers for the L-5 lance, and also lists its gasoline-engine cart sprayers for the trigger build; a male stainless steel quick connect is required to run the ring-only build on a Hydra |
| Ship weight | 2 lbs for the L-5TQC and L-5E builds |

Key Features
- Five conical nozzles in a ring, spraying perpendicular to the wand for even coverage on both sides of a row
- The assembled adjustable lance telescopes from 28 in to 41 in for reach over wide benches, vertical crops and hanging baskets
- 1/4 turn valve sets flow, and the trigger build adds a separate on and off so the flow setting is not lost each time
- Stainless steel high-pressure quick connect on the trigger build swaps the lance for a spray gun on the same hose
- Ring and shaft are offered without valve or handle for backpack use, where the sprayer already provides both
- Bare shafts are stocked as service parts, so a bent tube does not mean scrapping the ring, valve and handle with it
- The bare shaft comes either telescoping across 60 to 90 cm or as one of four set lengths from 60 cm to 120 cm
- Rated to 500 psi, so it can be run on Dramm's hydraulic sprayers and not only on low-pressure machines
Ideal Applications
- Applying insecticides, fungicides and sanitizers in commercial greenhouses
- Growth regulator and foliar programs in controlled-environment agriculture
- Spraying hanging baskets and other overhead crops from the floor
- Reaching the middle of a wide bench without walking on it
- Treating vertical or trellised crops from one side
- Replacing a bent or corroded shaft on a lance whose ring, valve and handle are still good
- Setting one working reach for a crew that sprays at the same height all day
The L-5 runs on Dramm's MSO and Hydra hydraulic sprayers and on the BP-4Li battery backpack, and Dramm lists the TRL5 trigger valve, the 1/4 turn valve and the 5 nozzle spray ring for the L-5 as separate items, so a bare shaft can be built back up into a working lance.
